👉 Death sentence for 8 people in Deepan's murder
On February 10 last year, the court sentenced eight accused to death in the murder of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan. They are asked to be hanged on the gallows until death is confirmed. At the same time, they have been fined 50 thousand rupees.
Judge Mojibur Rahman of the Special Anti-Terrorism Tribunal of Dhaka gave this verdict after 12 noon on Wednesday. At that time Deepan's wife Razia Rahman was present in the court.
The convicts are - Moinul Hasan Shamim, A. Sabur, Khairul Islam, Abu Siddique Sohail, Mozammel Hussain alias Simon, Sheikh Abdullah, retired Army Major Syed Ziaul Haque and Akram Hossain alias Hasib. They are all members of militant organization Ansarullah Bangla Team.
Ziaul Haque and Akram Hussain are absconding among them.
Later this organization (Ansarullah Bangla Team) emerged as Ansar Al Islam.
The six accused in the case were brought from the Kashimpur jail at around 8:30 am and kept in a courthouse. They were taken to the court around 11 am.
On October 31, 2015, miscreants hacked Deepan to death in his office at Aziz Super Market. On the same day, his wife filed a murder case at Shahbag police station.
According to the verdict, members of the banned organization Ansal Al Islam or Ansarullah Bangla Team aimed to kill bloggers, writers and publishers as part of Jihad to stop the freedom of expression and to destroy and subvert the democratic and non-communal character of the state.
The intention of the accused was to silence the voice of the people and create panic in the minds of the people to disturb the public safety or create social disorder by threat.
